It might seem ambitious to travel to Japan with 42 high school students, but ATC is a fearless school with fearless students and teachers. With that in mind, I am thrilled about this opportunity we all have to visit a foreign culture that is so different from our own. Having been a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, a teacher in India, a study abroad student in London, and a traveler to Europe and South America, I continue to be enriched by my experiences abroad which have opened my mind to countless cultures and ways of life. I think travel is one of the most important educational experiences one can have, and is the reason I chose to launch this trip to Japan. We also have Ms. Atsuko Fukue, a Japanese national, on staff at ATC, therefore we are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn a lot about Japanese culture and language before we set sail in March of 2020. I consider travel not only a way to be educated about our great world, but a way to fill our souls and make us feel more human. I am thrilled to have all of these fearless students and chaperones by my side as we take on this great adventure!
